Quick answer: On Patreon’s standard plan you pay a 10% platform fee plus payment processing (2.9% + $0.30 per payment for card payments in USD). 100 members at $10 a month is $1,000; fees are $100 + $59 = $159, so you take home $841 a month — about $10,092 a year — before any payout or currency fees.

How Patreon fees are worked out

The calculator applies each of Patreon’s fees in turn. You can see every one in the results, so nothing is hidden in a blended average.

The formulas

Gross = paying members × average pledge
Platform fee = gross × plan rate (10%, 8%, 11% or 5%)
Processing = gross × processing % + members × fixed fee per payment
Currency conversion = 2.5% × pledges paid in another currency
Tax on fee = platform fee × tax rate
Payout fee = depends on your payout method (once a month)
Take-home = gross − all of the above

The fixed part of the processing fee is charged on every payment, so it costs far more, as a share, on small pledges than on large ones.

Patreon creator fees (as of October 2026)

These are the main rates from Patreon’s creator fees page, for payments in US dollars. Other currencies have their own processing rates, which the “How members pay” menu includes.

Worked examples

1. 100 members at $10 (standard plan, card)

Gross: $1,000. Platform fee $100, processing $29 + 100 × $0.30 = $59. Total fees $159 (15.9%), so you take home $841 a month — $10,092 a year.

2. 500 members at $2 — small pledges

Gross is also $1,000, but the $0.30 fixed fee is charged 500 times: $150. With the $100 platform fee and $29 processing, fees are $279 (27.9%) and you keep $721.

3. 25 members at $50 — a premium tier

Gross: $1,250. Fees: $125 platform + $36.25 + $7.50 processing = $168.75 (13.5%). Take-home: $1,081.25 a month.

4. Paid out to a non-US bank

The creator in example 1, paid out through Payoneer to a local bank account, pays $0.25 + 1.55% of $841 — about $13.29. Monthly take-home falls to about $827.71.

Tips to keep more of your Patreon income

  • Avoid very small tiers. On a $2 pledge, the $0.30 fixed fee alone is 15% of the payment. Bundling benefits into a higher tier keeps more for you.
  • Offer annual memberships. One yearly payment is charged one fixed fee instead of twelve.
  • Match your payout currency. Members paying in your payout currency avoid the 2.5% conversion fee.
  • Choose your payout method carefully. A flat payout fee is small on large payouts; a percentage fee grows with your income.
  • Encourage web checkout. Purchases through the iOS app can carry Apple’s App Store fee.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Patreon take from creators?

On the standard plan (pages published after 4 August 2025), a 10% platform fee plus payment processing — 2.9% + $0.30 per payment for card payments in USD. Legacy plans pay 5%, 8% or 11%. Currency conversion, payout fees and tax on the fee can apply too.

Why is my effective fee higher than 10%?

The 10% is only the platform fee. Payment processing comes on top, and its fixed part ($0.30 per payment in USD) hits small pledges hardest. Currency conversion, payout fees and tax on the fee can add more.

Does the standard plan have a cheaper rate for small pledges?

No. Patreon’s micropayment rate (5% + $0.10 on pledges of $3 or less) is only for legacy plans. On the standard plan, the same processing rate applies to every pledge.

What happens to legacy plans?

Creators who published on or before 4 August 2025 keep their existing plan. If a legacy page is unpublished and later republished, it moves to the standard 10% plan.

Are taxes included?

Only the optional tax on Patreon’s platform fee. Sales tax or VAT charged to members, and your own income tax, are separate and depend on where you and your members live.

Does the currency selector convert my numbers?

No. It only changes the symbol shown. Pick the “How members pay” option that matches your members’ currency so the right processing rate is used.
