Split a commission fairly between you, JV partners, sub-affiliates or helpers. Enter the total, set each person’s share, and see exactly what everyone is owed, ready to copy, download or print.
Split helper: tap a common split to fill in the shares, or “Equal split” to share evenly between everyone listed.
Agree every split in writing before a promotion starts. This calculator does not include tax.
Quick answer: Multiply the total commission by each person’s percentage share. Make sure the shares add up to 100%. For example, a $1,000 commission split 70 / 20 / 10 gives $700 to you, $200 to a JV partner and $100 to a sub-affiliate.
The calculator divides the total by the shares you set, using only the numbers you enter.
Amount to split = total commission × (1 − fees)
Each person's amount = amount to split × their share
Not yet assigned = amount to split × (100% − all shares)
Amounts are shown to the cent. If shares add up to more than 100%, the calculator warns you, because you can’t pay out more than you received.
JV promotions: two marketers promote together and share what the promotion earns, often 50 / 50 or by who did more of the work. Sub-affiliates: you recruit someone who promotes under you and share part of the commission with them. Helpers: a writer or assistant is paid a share of the sales their work brings in, instead of a flat fee.
Some affiliate programs pay you a small extra commission on sales made by affiliates you recruited, on top of their own commission. That’s paid by the program, not split from your commission, so check the program’s terms before you use this calculator for it.
Two marketers promote a launch together and earn $2,000. Split 50 / 50, each gets $1,000.
A $1,000 commission split 70 / 20 / 10 gives $700 to you, $200 to a JV partner and $100 to a sub-affiliate.
A $1,500 commission with a 5% fee taken off first leaves $1,425 to split. At 80 / 20 that’s $1,140 and $285.
A writer earns 10% of the sales from articles they wrote. In a month those articles earn $3,200, so the writer is owed $320 and you keep $2,880.
A clear split keeps partners happy and avoids arguments later:
If they add up to less, some of the commission isn’t assigned to anyone yet; the calculator shows how much. If they add up to more, you’d be paying out more than you received, so reduce one or more shares.
Either can be fair, as long as everyone agrees first. Taking fees off before splitting means everyone shares the cost; otherwise the person who receives the commission pays them alone.
They’re related. A referral fee is usually paid to whoever brought in a sale or lead. A commission split is any agreement to share affiliate earnings between people, for any reason.
Always before. Agreeing in writing first avoids disputes about who did more of the work once the results are in.
